Re:         Sanitation Ordinance Changes

Dear City of Henderson Sanitation Customer:

As a valued sanitation customer of the City of Henderson, we would like to inform you of an amendment to the city’s sanitation ordinance that was approved at the February 13, 2024 city council meeting. Effective immediately, all garbage shall be deposited inside garbage refuse containers allowing the lid to fully close. Excess garbage bags on top of or next to refuse containers are not allowed. Sanitation customers that are not in compliance will be given a notification of violation. After the second notice and third violation, the Public Works Director has the authority to issue additional refuse container(s) and have the approved fee added to the customers sanitation bill. The current fee for each additional refuse container is $5.67 per month.

As a reminder, listed below the are some of the rules regarding your garbage collection service:

  • Garbage refuse containers shall be used for disposal of residential garbage only. Tires, hazardous waste, yard waste, bulky waste, construction rubbish, hot coals, etc… shall not be placed within garbage containers.
  • All garbage shall be deposited inside garbage refuse containers allowing the lid to fully close. Excess garbage bags on top of or next to refuse containers are not allowed.
  • Garbage refuse containers shall be placed within 5 feet of the curb or street edge for collection no earlier than 7:00pm the day before your designated pickup day and shall be removed no later than 7:00pm after the container has been emptied.
  • If your garbage is missed on your collection day, you must report it to Public Works the next day. There is a 12-hour to 24-hour response time for GFL to collect missed garbage. If you do not report it the next day, it will likely be collected on your next collection day.
